Essay 3
RADIO — Are you primarily a commercial AM, commercial FM, or non-commercial FM radio listener? When do you listen to the radio most frequently? Which are your favorite formats? Why?
Nowadays, there are three different categories that radio divides into, like commercial AM, commercial FM and non-commercial FM. If I had to place myself into a radio station, I would say that I am a commercial FM listener. This is because commercial FM radio stations are constantly playing music of different genres instead of news 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Plus, I find radio shows in commercial FM more entertaining than commercial AM. Nevertheless, I believe I have listened to AM radio more than twice because of a Spanish radio station that often narrates international soccer games.
Since many different music devices have been created along with radio stations, people like me prefer to listen to their mp3 players, CDs or iPods when they are in their cars. A reason to that is because they do not have to go through commercials and this way they listen only to music of their preference with no interruptions at all. Therefore, I am not a frequent radio listener, unless my iPod’s battery died, or I left my iPod at home. Only then, I listen to the radio. However, I must admit that sometimes I get tired of my own music and I turn off my iPod to listen to some show on the radio. Which is the only time and place I listen to the radio.

1. Have you enjoyed reading the Wall Street Journal? Explain why you have enjoyed it, or why not.

2. How has reading the newspaper helped you learn about Mass Communications media? Explain, and give some examples of what you’ve learned.
Answer: Reading the newspaper has taught me what is going on in the mass communications’ world. For example, how many newspaper companies are closing down, due to the fact that they don’t sell a lot, and they try to cut down Ads. This is an example of how Ads work, and what they do.

Answer: Yes, I believe that the quizzes are a good way to measure if we’ve learned anything and also if we’ve learned. If you don’t put time into the reading, you won’t do well in the quizzes, which is the most major assignment out of the class.
6. How likely are you to renew your subscription to The Wall Street Journal after this semester? Give an expansive answer, with reasons.
Answer: Honestly I am not sure. I could renew it so I could be informed on a daily basis of what is going on. However, I tend to be that kind of person that if I am not forced to do something, I am most likely not to do it. Also, I barely have time to spend with my mother, since I am always working and in school, and the days we are both free, I can’t seem to spend quality time with her because I am so full of homework.

Books: Question 1
Since I was about 6 years old , my grandmother has always persuaded me to read. She constantly repeated that the person that read a lot would always grow up to be a talented and very intelligent person. Obviously, since I was a little girl, I was very naïve so, I went on with believing her, even though I had no idea of what she was saying. But I do know that these words were definitely recorded in my mind and they would always play in my head over and over again. So, ever since I can remember, I have tried to read as many books as I can. My reason for that is because as the years went by, I realized my grandmother was right. Today, I believe reading makes people gain knowledge, not only on whatever they’re reading but also on lexicon. It helps people improve their reading skills and also, develop an extended sense of creativity by other‘s writings. In addition to that, pulls people away from being lazy in front of a TV watching non-learning shows.
When talking about reading habits, I must say I am definitely proud of my dedication to reading. Throughout the years I have read an uncountable number of books. Starting from fictional novels, to non-fictional, literary and just teenage novels. I am constantly involved in reading whether it involves a book, a magazine or a newspaper. Usually, I tend to get into the plot of whatever I’m reading, and then, I just can’t stop reading until I’m done with the whole book. Then, I’d have to find something else to read so I would entertain myself. I must add that sometimes I get carried away with what I am doing and I see myself forced to put away a book until I’m done with my school assignments.
Going back, and thinking about all of the books I have read, it becomes hard for me to pick a specific author as my favorite. However, out of the most recent books I have read, I would pick Paulo Coelho and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Both, Spanish authors, because since Spanish is my native language, I find it easier for me to read in that language. Paulo Coelho, as well as Gabriel Garcia Marquez, usually write about fictional novels; their novels are translated into many languages around the world, but for me Spanish is my favorite. Even though, they are both novel writers, they take their novels to the extreme where the reader absolutely believes that it is actually happen. I like this genre of books, because you’re constantly imagining what could happen after, and most of the novels are written.
Finally, I believe reading is an activity that everyone should be involved in. It should be important in everyone’s life since it teaches us morals, and even a pattern of a conduct. By this, I mean, it creates a schedule on a person, in which they get used to reading. However, many people don’t know the importance of reading or how much a reading a book can make an improvement in their lives. That is why, if you even read one book a month, at least you’re doing something to better yourself in one way or another.
